ASH robyn

vocalist/songwriter/guitarist

bio

Based in Vancouver, B.C, Ash Robyn is an award-winning songwriter, vocalist, guitarist and producer.

Her career as a professional musician/producer started early. As a naturally gifted singer she encountered many opportunities to perform as a child and young person. This, combined with her growing passion for the expressive arts, led her to gain entrance to a specialized five-year training program at Langley Fine Arts. She graduated from this program in 2001 with awards for her musicianship and creative theatrical performances. She continued her studies at SFU and via private mentorships while further honing her solo performance skills in intimate concert settings.

In 2008 she joined the a'cappella gospel quintet, The Little Wheel (a project headed by Khari Wendell McLelland). Performances at In The House Festival, Sistahood Festival and Under The Volcano followed. Ash joined the band Jackie Treehorn as lead singer in 2010. The band went from gigging at venues in Vancouver to touring throughout Western Canada, performing for thousands on the David Lam Stage as part of the Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

Parallel with the successes of this ensemble, Ash’s songwriting career was advancing with solo appearances at the Robson Valley Music Festival and Komasket Music Festival. When Jackie Treehorn disbanded in 2013, she began a new alt. rock trio called Trespassers Will with two former members of the band. They released a self-titled EP in February 2014.

Ash continues to work as a back-up vocalist and rhythm guitar player. She has performed and recorded with notable groups such as The Boom Booms, Small Town Artillery, Jack Garton and the Demon Squadron, Fake Shark, and Ricky Diamonds. Ash was awarded a FACTOR grant in 2019 for Artist Development and continues to devote time to the creation of new works in her home studio.

In 2023 she began a new phase of her career, working as Musical Director of the Larrikin Entertainment/Atomic Vaudeville co-production of WYRD. An all-original new musical developed in The Yukon, Ash also contributed several songs to the production and is credited as co-writer. She made her return to the theatre stage as an ensemble member in the debut run, touring throughout The Yukon as well as to Victoria, BC.
